World Breastfeeding Week
Professional Education Opportunities
Volunteers Needed
Halton region is joining
over 150 countries worldwide by celebrating World
Breastfeeding Week October 1-8th.
The Halton Baby Friendly
Initiative (HBFI), a community advocacy and support
group, is celebrating World Breastfeeding Week
by launching a new website for breastfeeding families
in Halton and beyond. The focus of the website
is to offer information and resources and to provide
a forum for families to connect and share their
personal stories and breastfeeding experiences.
The official ‘Website Launch’ location
will be held at the Oakville Parent Child Centre,
461 North Service Road, unit 17 on Friday 7 October
between 10 a.m. and noon. All breastfeeding moms
and babies are welcome to attend.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF),
the World Health Organization (WHO) and over 170
countries worldwide will be recognizing this World
Breastfeeding Week from October 1 – 8. Halton
BFI will be sponsoring several celebrations throughout
the region during that week at various community
locations.
The theme this year
is Talk to me! Breastfeeding – a 3D
Experience. “The World Breastfeeding
Week theme highlights that breastfeeding support
is often looked at in terms of length of breastfeeding
experience and location but with out a third dimension,
communication , neither has much impact”
said Eileen Chuey, HBFI Coordinator “Communication
is an essential part of protecting, promoting
and supporting breastfeeding.”

We believe in the value
of breastfeeding. We are a group of volunteer
women providing mother-to-mother telephone support.
Would you like to join our
team of volunteers? Our volunteers need:
- A belief in the value
of breastfeeding
- At least 4 months of
breastfeeding experience and intent to breastfeed
for at least 6 months.
We offer a 4-hour training

Telephone calls are made from the comfort of your
home. Ability to speak a second language is an
asset.
