Participants:
Health care workers who are sometimes uncomfortable having the informed decision making conversation with parents because often they are not confident themselves about the science and evidence for the superiority of human milk . They are also largely unequipped to provide guidance and support when babies are formula fed - and we know those babies are often struggling.

To Share:
The facts of what formula is made of and how it is made
The risks of formula in the context of informed decision making (AFASS) and
The awesome biochemistry of human milk and why it is so important to value every drop.
The medical reasons for supplementation and how to offer alternative feeding methods (other than bottles and teats) and strategies to prioritize and protect mothers milk supply.
The Importance of skin-to- skin care and bonding as well as cue based responsive feeding and paced bottle feeding when this is the parents method of choice.
The role of the WHO Code and WHA Resolutions and Codex Allimentarius and the Health Canada Regulations and Canadian Pediatric Society recommendations that are in place for the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding and informed decision making around infant feeding.
