Halton BFI 25th Anniversary Celebration

Updated: Nov 11

What happens when passionate, like-minded individuals come together across generations? You get a beautiful celebration of dedication, community, and the unwavering commitment of women supporting women and parents supporting parents.

Twenty-five years ago, a need for breastfeeding support in Halton sparked a movement that continues to thrive today. Last week, the Halton Baby-Friendly Initiative (HBFI) marked its 25th Anniversary with a heartwarming celebration that brought together past and present members to reflect on their shared journey.

Among the attendees were Kathy O’Grady Venter and Louise Giaccobbo, two of HBFI’s founding members. Kathy shared inspiring words about the power of collective action and what can be achieved when people unite around a common goal.

Lori Barber, a current executive member, provided an update on HBFI’s ongoing work. The organization continues to collaborate closely with Halton Public Health to ensure breastfeeding supports remain strong and responsive to community needs. HBFI’s general meetings are open to all, offering a space to stay informed about evolving initiatives and best practices.

Each year, HBFI distributes hand expression kits to over 4,000 new families and offers breastfeeding education courses to approximately 125 healthcare providers. This fall, a new online resource for families, Breastfeeding Basics was launched, expanding access to essential information and support.

It was a truly special celebration of community, connection, and care. And yes, the cupcakes were delicious!
