Health care facilities can step up for breastfeeding in a number of ways.
First, they can be sure to implement Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding in Canada. Following these ten steps can help parents reach their breastfeeding goals.
Join initiatives such as Baby Friendly Initiative Ontario (BFION) and Halton Baby Friendly Initiative (HBFI) whose missions are to “protect, promote, and support breastfeeding in Canada”.
Hire staff who are trained to work with families during the birthing process to help them conduct self-appraisals of their competency.
Finally, including the Universal Breastfeeding Symbol around the workplace is a great way to show people that you are a health care facility that supports breastfeeding.
